March 13, 2020
Dear Members of the Niwot United Methodist Church community,
After prayer, conversation and in response to the ongoing concerns about the health and safety of our Niwot United Methodist community and the greater community, the leadership of the Niwot UMC has decided not to hold public worship this Sunday March 15 and next Sunday March 22, 2020. We will decide later about Sunday March 29, 2020 and beyond. It is our plan to post sermon recordings and other worship materials on our Niwot United Methodist Church Facebook site. You can view the Church Facebook page with or without a Facebook account. Just type @NiwotUMChurch in your search bar. If you have questions about how to connect please email or contact the church office.
We make this decision with the support of Bishop Karen Oliveto and join with other United Methodist Churches and faith communities in the Boulder/Weld County region who will also be suspending public worship gatherings. We act not out of fear, but out of a desire to do everything in our power to prevent community spread of COVID-19 and to care for the most vulnerable among us.
Public health officials tell us that the best way to slow the spread of the virus is to act early to avoid opportunities for exposure. We believe that now is the time to avoid large public gatherings, rather than after the virus has spread through our community. And a good portion of our congregation demographics are within the group described by Gov. Polis in a call today with Faith Leaders, as the most vulnerable to the dangers of the virus.
But, simply asking the most vulnerable to self-isolate doesn’t really address the problem, we need to all be responsible for the well-being of our congregation and community neighbors. Not gathering for a few weeks is one way we can help with everyone’s safety.
Throughout the coming weeks, we will keep in touch through communications sent out by email, posted on Facebook and the Niwot UMC web site. As needed, we will also initiate a phone tree to contact those without computer or smart phone access.
Also, please continue your support of the ministry of the church through mailing in your offerings or electronic giving. We will post information about how you can give online.
Let us stay connected to each other by love and prayer, so that as we navigate the next few weeks and months, we will be able to serve the least among us from a position of confidence, faith and trust.
