NIWOT UNITED Ministry Teams The Lay Leadership Team/Nominations will soon be meeting. We will be looking at the areas of ministry that will be opening on our ministry teams. Some of the positions are for chairs and others to serve on a ministry team. God has called each of us to be in ministry. One of the ways that we advance the ministry that God invited us to do is by being in ministry through the church. Please take time to prayerfully consider the gifts and talents that God has given you and open yourself to where you are being called to serve. Your call maybe to serve on a ministry team on which you are currently serving, or for the first time or once again to teach and provide challenge and learning for children and adults, to join one of the music teams, women’s ministry, serve on the administrative council, etc. Included is a brief overview of our ministry teams and some of what they do. Outreach —This ministry team provides outreach within our local community, our annual conference, and globally. Some of the Outreach ministry is with our local food banks, Our Center, Boulder Homeless Shelter, being a Volunteer in Mission, School Supplies etc. Within our congregation they oversee the sending of cards on behalf of the congregation, provide bread for visitors in worship, looking at developing a congregations care ministry, etc. They usually meet on a Sunday morning following worship, as needed. Mary Byrne, Katherine Ann Webster, and Minettea Knowlden are a part of this group. Age Level and Family Ministry —Fun Committee, Young at Heart, Singles groups make up this ministry team. This committee provides the congregation with opportunities for fellowship and service. They sponsor the June Picnic, Chili and Caroling Party, outings to museums, fall leaves, brunch etc. Meet as needed. Alice Haverstock, Bea Hill, Walt Gehring are a part of this group. Hospitality Ministry is responsible for the fellowship time following worship. They also organize other receptions. Donna Darland and Lois Zoller work on this ministry. Membership Ministry Team develops membership opportunities within the life of our congregation. Inviting us to bring people to fellowship events, worship services to grow our fellowship. The Care Units are a part of this ministry. Alice Haverstock and Joanne Long work with this group. Staff Parish Relations (SPR)—This is the “human resource” committee for the church. They are the liaison between the congregation and the minister and vice versa, as well as the liaison between the congregation and the staff. They also develop job descriptions, interview and hire staff, and set salaries. Meet on a regular basis. Frank Landis, Jennifer Hayes co-chair this group. Christian Education develops the many opportunities for children, youth, and adults to grow in our wisdom and understanding of the Bible, our relationship with God and with Jesus, our calling as disciples in our faith journey. They offer Sunday School opportunities through Sunday School at 10:45 a.m. for all ages, Sunday School Christmas Program, and presentation of Bibles. Diana Neff chairs Christian Education. Worship Ministry Team is involved with planning our many opportunities to worship and celebrate God in our lives. They meet every other month on the second Tues., 7:30 p.m. They plan special worship services throughout the year including Christmas Eve, Lent and Easter, etc. Gayle Weiss chairs. Strategic Long Range Planning (SLRP) This ministry team meets monthly, 2nd Thursday of the month at noon. The look at what is working, what we are our needs, and how we can build on those for the future. They also vision what might be….and what we could do to dream new and different ministries. They bring their thoughts to the Ad. Council. Pete Byrne is chair. Finance Ministry Team They review and project the yearly budget. They approve the bills for non-budgeted expenses. They meet monthly on Tues. at 7 p.m. Ron Kiel chairs finance. Stewardship is a developing ministry team. Diana Neff chairs and Kim Freymiller is on this team. Pete Byrne will chair the Stewardship Ministry Funding Team. They provide education on stewardship and our faith journey, help us look at our vision for ministry as a church and within each ministry team and how to fund those ministry programs. Board of Trustees is responsible for all church property, including gifts given to the church from Estates. They maintain the church. They also establish the building use policies for the church. They usually meet the second Tues. of the month, 6:30 p.m. Ted Barna chairs Trustees. Lay Leader is to cultivate awareness of the role of laity within the church and throughout their ministry at home or at work. To work with the minister and the church council in the development of ministry both within the local church and the world. Encourage the laity to be in ministry within the community. Katherine Ann Webster is the lay leader. Lay Member to Annual Conference is the official lay voting delegate from the local church. The lay delegate along with the minister is responsible for interpreting the action of the annual conference session. Alice Haverstock is our Lay Member and Dorinda Dembroski has served as an Equalization Voting Delegate from our Peaks sub-district. Church Council is responsible for the following the vision or mission statement of the church. It is charged by the Discipline to work annually with the congregation in setting a vision and setting goals for the attainment of the vision. They are to implement a program of nurture, outreach, witness, resources in the local church. They are also responsible for the administration of the church. Meets monthly on the third Tues. of the month, 7 p.m.. Biff Warren chairs the council. Church Council Secretary takes the official minutes for the meetings. Kim Freymiller serves in this capacity. Treasurer is a part of the Church Council and the Finance Committee. The treasurer works with the finance team in reviewing the financial ministry needs of the congregation and in setting an annual budget. The treasurer pays the bills, maintains records of bill paying, etc. Rick Clark is treasurer and Fred Smith Finance Secretary--receives funds, records, giving, deposits money. |
